چکیده
This chapter summarizes the results of five years of research supported by the World Bank Research Committee, and from Trust Funds from the Netherlands, Sweden and Canada administered by the World Bank. The research was done under the direction of Richard M. Huber (World Bank), task team leader, with input from numerous researchers as referenced throughout this chapter. Primary input was provided by (in alphabetical order) Rolf Bak (Netherlands Institute of Sea Research), Steve Dollar (University of Hawaii), Kent Gustavson (Gustavson Ecological Resource Consulting), Erik Meesters (Netherlands Institute of Sea Research), Frank Rijsberman (Resource Analysis), Jack Ruitenbeek (HJ Ruitenbeek Resource Consulting), and Susie Westmacott (Resource Analysis). This summary was prepared by Kent Gustavson and Richard M. Huber. ABSTRACT

A Bayesian model decision support system: dryland salinity management application
Addressing environmental management problems at catchment scales requires an integrated modelling approach, in which key bio-physical and socio-economic drivers, processes and impacts are all considered. Development of Decision Support Systems (DSSs) for environmental management is rapidly progressing. This paper describes the integration of physical, ecological, and socio-economic components i...

Integrated watershed management is considered as a new principle for development planning and management of water and soil resources emphasizing on socio-economic characteristics of the region to sustainable livelihoods without vulnerability for plants and the residents of an area. This research, in line with the objectives of integrated management, has been carried out for modelling and evalua...
متن کاملCoastal zone resource management: tools for a participatory planning and decision making process
Coastal zones around the globe experience rapid development and change, and the Mediterranean, and in particular the Southern and Eastern parts, is undergoing dramatic demographic and related socio-economic development with growing and conflicting demands on natural resources. This leads to often irreversible degradation of these resources including the littoral and sub-littoral zones and thus ...
متن کاملScientific approaches to address challenges in coastal management
Anthropogenic activity has a negative impact on many coastal ecosystems, compromising the significant direct and indirect socio-economic benefits provided in these areas. Maintaining activities that depend on coastal zones while preserving the ecological state of the ecosystems represents a management challenge. Management of coastal zones requires scientifically based knowledge, due to the com...
